Well, I finally made it! :) I am officially in Nairobi, Kenya. :) It only took me 15 1/2 hours to get here! (I miscalculated the time changes.. haha). It's almost 1am here and I have to say, I am exhausted. I will defintely sleep well tonight! I have already had my shower and I am ready for bed! Wake up call for breakfast tomorrow is 8:30am, and I am actually REALLY excited! For once I will get to have FRESH fruit! (I love fruit.) hehe.
Ok well let me just recap the last few hours..
I made to Amsterdam at around 9:00am there (Dec. 30th) and that flight took 7hrs, from Detroit to Amsterdam. I met some interesting people on the airplane and had my first meal in the air!! :) haha! Once we landed me and and some other members of our team went exploring through the airport (btw, this airport is HUGE!!) and took some fun pictures! :) Also, it was kinda awkward, but you have to go through security again and I got patted down for the first time and it was just awkward.. haha
My next flight was supposed to leave at 10:30am (Amsterdam time), but we didnt really get to take off until prolly an hour later. Cuz we had some people not show up so there luggage had to be removed.. After that got taken care of we took off and flew another 8hrs to Kenya. I got to kinda see the sunset (I had an aisle seat.) and it was beautiful! We arrived in Kenya around 10:00pm (Kenya time), and we proceeded to get our visas and get our luggage. Let me just say that baggage claim was crazy!! It took about an hour just to get all of our bags. We couldnt find one bag so we had to wait in line for the luggage service to try and help us locate it but it ended up showing up right before I was about to talk to the lady. It was cool. God was definitely watching over us.
We finally went out to our ride, whose name is John, (he's a friend of the team, whom they have known for a long time) and loaded up the van and headed to the Guest House. I got to ride in the front seat which was cool cuz they drive on the left side of the road and its a totally different experience when your upfront. Fun little fact: John said that when the streets arent really busy, like they were tonight, then you dont really have to obey the traffic lights.. you can just go. It was so weird to hear that..)
We finally made it to the guest house in one piece and got our room assignments and just and now we're all just settling in. :) I am rooming with a girl named Rebekah, she's a lot of fun. The rooms arent that bad. We have to single beds, a shower, toilet, sink.. you know the norm. And the water is safe to brush your teeth and take a shower, so thats nice. One thing that I have noticed about Nairobi is its particular smell.. It kinda smells like a mixture between diesel fuel and peanuts.. kinda weird to describe but thats the only way I know how haha! Its been a crazy fun trip, but I'm finally here. :) And its so cool how God has just been watching over us and protecting us!
Tomorrow, like I said, wake up call is 8:30am here (thats 4:30pm for all you non-math people out there, haha) for breakfast and then I believe we will exchange our money and go to the store to by food and water for lunch and things. So that will be fun! :)
Alrighty, well.. I think thats about it for now, Im gonna get on off to bed. Let me know if you have any questions and thank you all for your prayers! They are definitely being felt. :)
